  The Silence of the Sea 1949

  If I had a nickel for every haunting depiction of the Nazi’s crimes that used sound and silence as deeply effective dramatic tools I’d have 2 nickels. In all seriousness this is an amazing film, shocked how little I’ve heard people talk about it, even with a well regarded director at the helm.

  This was bad bad. Story is so meandering until it rushes to find a conflict at the end. Music and lyrics were embarrassing. Genuinely felt like it had the same color grading as the Rob Zombie Halloween movies. And goddamn was the pacing slow. If you were tasked to create a parody skit of an “Oscar Bait Musical” it would be this. Also the surgery obsessed trans narrative and lack of cultural literacy generally would have been bad enough. Did not enjoy this experience at all.

  Before I saw it, I assumed this movie would be a comedy of errors that takes place during a Jewish funeral. It is, in fact, a horror film, and a good one at that. Fans of Uncut Gems would do well to watch this film.

  This is my new favorite adaptation of Dracula. Got the same feeling watching this as I did reading the book. Dreamy, atmospheric, incredible sense of setting, absolutely loved this. This is the sort of movie you can take a bite out of (pun intended). The sense of darkness and dread is so stifling and fully realized. Loved all of the long, creepy takes. Very well paced I felt. The depiction of Count Orlock, his breathing labored as if every breath…
