Watched this one while looking for the animation adaptation (and not realising there were different versions!). Wasn't quite prepared / in the right state of mind for it, but was lovely. Need a rewatch

The Pod Generation 2023
This film made me smile and laugh often enough that it made it pleasant, and it did pose some interesting questions here and there, but overall I found it trying to be too clever and at the same time not exploring the questions deeply enough.

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind 1984
Once more (or should I say, initially so, considering it's one of his earliest movies) Miyazaki strikes me with a really enjoyable and thought provoking movie. Perhaps a bit dated, considering the discussions on the environment and war-culture are everywhere nowadays, but imagine that in 1984 - surely bolder then.
The animation is beautiful, the soundtrack amazing, and the characters spirited and relatable. I didn't find it (overall) as great as e.g. Spirited Away or Princess Mononoke but I guess that makes sense - those movies would, over time and work, build on this one.
