Too few compelling characters (Wulf is a crybaby bad guy and I would much rather have followed Olwyn than Héra) but it has enough great individual scenes for me to recommend it for anyone who is into Tolkien's universe.

The Iron Giant 1999
The first movie that my five-year-old has begged me to put on again immediately and a compelling argument for the magic of traditional animation. Absolutely brilliant.

C.R.A.Z.Y. 2005
An amazingly rich coming-of-age story. Quite possibly one of the most well-directed films I have ever seen. Vallée's stylistic choices are impressive yet never too imposing. Performances are superb all round, though with the actor playing the father being the obvious stand-out. The portrayal of family dynamics seemed utterly authentic, and I loved how the movie chronicles several years while always maintaining Zach's point of view, making it both epic and very personal.
