I regret rating Blue Velvet 5/5, only because this also warrants that rating. Blue Velvet was fantastic, but I was all over this, and truly think it might be one of the most brilliant films I have ever seen.

I can’t even begin to dissect this film… I think Naomi Watts and (spoilers inbound) her characters Betty/Diane are absolutely astounding. Betty’s pristine, girl-next-door starlet characterisation is on par with Laura Dern’s in Blue Velvet — both pink-jumper-wearing innocents willing to…

There is an absolutely hilarious anti-feminist rant about this film online. Please, I beg you, watch this and then go and find it, and laugh at male inadequacy. Best film ever.

This is the worst film ever made and now I am sad because, as this film is so bad, everyone thinks the first Mamma Mia is also terrible. It’s not. It’s great. The best film ever some might say. But this one is terrible. Don’t watch it, you will never get the time back. Just go watch the first Mamma Mia again instead.

Watched this again with my housemates after a few years. Unbelievable film. Wow. Wish I could give it more stars. With all the trappings of a warm-natured rom-com and the visual imagery of a classic, this cult masterpiece makes me feel so upset that modern films — Netflix tosh — are not made with such delicacy and precision as 90s movies. To make a film is to make art, and the whole world seems to have forgotten this in the name of commercialism. Let gentle films be beautiful again — let ‘chick flicks’ be as enjoyable as they once were. Slay Natasha Richardson.
