  the moment ophelia appeared on screen, I couldn’t focus on anything but her hair... good god, I need that hair. laurence olivier’s portrayal of hamlet is intensely captivating, filled with a quiet sincerity and gravitas and eileen herlie’s performance as gertrude was so good they brought her back to do it twice. even though this adaptation makes some cuts (which is understandable), it still feels remarkably true to the original and is a fantastic version of the play.
