Holy shit. So good. I can't praise this enough.
The main twist is incredible. Having Joe be completely irrelevant to the world and to this secret he is uncovering yet still be the hero is a remarkable achievement in storytelling.
You connect with him because he isn't some Neo-type chosen one. He's just a dude, yet he still chose to do good. Even after losing a lot.
And the visuals? Sound design? Score? Amazing.

Holy shit what a great film. Was expecting a mess of aliens and monstrous flesh things, but what I got could not have been better.
Great themes on corruption of government and the cyclical nature of bureaucracy making the same mistakes over and over again. Great analogies to superweapons and the ways in which humanity will likely repeat the mistake the US made in WW2.
Also... the blueprint for all the anime I watch now. Tetsuo's theme is so obviously…
