The Hunt 2012
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Heartbreaking. This is like watching a fish out of water. Helpless and hopeless.
The stereotypes that society have made are so powerful. All logic behind any investigation into the incident is dismissed because children “never lie.” Any claims of innocence from Mikkelsen’s character only further proves that he is guilty. Yet the only evidence against him is a single story with no proof of truth behind it.
Single stories of events can be very powerful. They are often exaggerated and…

Reservoir Dogs 1992
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
My favorite part of this movie (except the title sequence) is the very beginning. We go straight from Mr. Pink’s argument about tipping to Mr. Orange bleeding in the car. No explanation. There isn’t a long exposition scene explaining the details of the robbery. Despite this, Mr. Pink and Mr. White’s conversation in the warehouse gives just enough information for the viewer to know exactly what happened. Yet it isn’t a conversation that seems forced. Both men are nervous and…

Witness for the Prosecution 1957
This is a gem. Extremely funny in the first 20 minutes, with stellar dialogue and delivery from the lead character. I felt it could have benefitted from moving on into the trial around 30-40 minutes in, because there’s definitely a good period in the first hour that drags. The whole trial second half is great. There’s of course the classic back and forth in court, and it’s gripping. The ending is actually surprisingly surprising. What happens plot wise is really smart, but I struggled to find weight along with it. Good movie. 3.5/5

Heat 1995
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This has to be in my top 10 favorite movies I’ve ever seen. Heat is mythical. Al Pacino gives what surprisingly is my favorite performance of his and one of the greatest of all time. His character, Vincent Hanna, is brilliant.
In many ways, Hanna is the embodiment of human spirit. Driven by competition, relentless to reach his goals, ignorant of what his top priorities should be.
Mann builds this character and manages to manipulate his audience right into his…

The Shining 1980

“Wendy, darling, light of my life! I'm not gonna hurt you. You didn't let me finish my sentence. I said I'm not gonna hurt ya. I'm just gonna bash your brains in.”
A study of a below average man reacting to and dealing with the sins he has committed and the consequences of his actions on his family.
Jack Torrance is an incredibly weak person. He is a writer who can’t write. He is a father and husband who doesn’t…
