  everything i love about this movie lives in the hyper-isolated, distant shots of emmi and ali in their own world. im not meant to comprehend what their love feels like, just their loneliness. and in each of those moments when i start to understand, fassbinder cuts it short with an eerie tableau of the neighbors that haunt and harass the pair. 

  i love the contrast of their passion for each other against the community's hope it'll all go to shit.…
