Underrated and well-written with warmth. Meta-narrative on storytelling with a love story that foils a strait-laced, isolated man and a woman who creates community and rebukes norms. Will Ferrell is fantastic with a relatively straight role compared to everything he put out in the 2000s.

    Great casting

i feel like there were no stakes in this movie? after a great chilling introduction to The Family at Spahn Ranch, there’s just no other touchpoints to feel any concern for characters? Everyone goes about their business and soaks in their lovely life in ‘69. The revisionist ending feels like an afterthought (or hallucination) to the real endings of 1) Cliff & Rick’s time together & 2) Old Hollywood.

"…the most menacing thing anyone can muster here is a passive-aggressive karaoke choice…” - Sophie Monks Kaufman

This kinda sums up my feeling. We’ve got a pretty gorgeous backdrop of this absurdly wealthy mansion and a bunch of duplicitous characters but nothing really happens? Is Oscar driven by sexual urges or by his social standing? “I loved him” aren’t you guys like 20? At least get through one summer before spiraling on your impulsive attachment.

Fennell’s direction with the cinematography team has a lot of redeeming qualities.
