Very vibrant, colorful film with lots of flare in the set design and intentional contrast with stylish editing. Great, overall costume design with the exception of (spoiler... the protagonist's literal final dress design reveal...)
The plot itself left much to be desired but was entertaining enough given some critical standout performances from Thomasin McKenzie in her best Cornish accent and unsurprisingly from Anya Taylor-Joy.
I wish I could have liked the plot more than I actually did given the phenomenal acting but it just didn't make any sense.
I'm not big into the romance genre but this movie just had a way of blending the romance with great mystery and intrigue. Park Chan-wook's style somehow makes something as banal (and sometimes as gruesome) as a police procedural into a beautiful arrangement with his seamless transitions and camera work.
Park Hae-il has the perfect insomniac detective mug and Tang Wei steals the show with a perfect mix of charisma and reticence.
Also I couldn't believe the final act - an emotional roller coaster.
Ah Jesus Christ I wish I hadn't seen this movie.
Justin Long stole the show for me with an impeccable performance of one of the most insufferable 'Hollywood actor tropes.
There are some hairy and disturbing scenes that I probably won't forget until another month passes by, only for my memory to get re-triggered by random everyday objects.
Great film with spectacular cinematography.
The "villains" in this film centered around World War 2 are obviously the Nazis, who barely make an appearance in the film. It really helped put the focus on the struggle to survive in a desperate race against time while getting bombarded by Axis carpet bombers with nowhere to hide. The film does a truly great job of depicting what "shooting fish in a barrel" would really mean in wartime, despite the vast expanse of space the retreating military seemed to possess on the beach.
