  Hellraiser 1987

  We really did lose something in film as an artistic endeavor when we began to use CGI as a means to replace practical effects. That’s where this really gross and depraved movie really shines. The last act where it’s just Kirsty (dumb name btw) screaming throughout the house is not nearly as interesting as the last act of the book, but movies gotta movie.

  Who knew a movie about a debate lord atheist would be so noncommittal? Everyone, except the debate lord atheists who wrote it, apparently. 

  The ending is visible from 10,000 ft. The movie falls apart after its climactic moment and I never once was scared of Hugh Grant. That man is a sweetheart and I won’t be convinced otherwise by a dumb movie.

  Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East you are better than this.

  I didn’t like this as much as I thought I might. There were a lot of things it did really well and there’s a lot of stylistic stuff that is pretty cool, but I think a lot of what this does well is done better in other films.

  Scream VI 2023

  The legacy entries in the Scream franchise love the Scream movies. That’s what puts them head and shoulders above the other legacy sequels we’ve gotten in the last few years. 

  They use the iconography in incredible ways. They poke fun at the franchise. They poke fun at the genre. They poke fun at their very existence. 

  They’re also just really fuckin’ awesome. The cold open is really great, both in its classic form and it’s subversion of it. 

  I chuckled…
