Many have said this film is “disturbing” “fucked up”, etc. and while that is true at times, to me, this is deeply human, raw, and real. Erika is such a multifaceted, interesting character played absolutely beautifully by Isabelle Huppert (those slightly subtle changes in facial expressions PHEW). Despite Erika’s many transgressions (which the film never places any kind of judgement on thankfully), you can’t help but feel deeply empathetic for her. Who hasn’t felt a deep longing hole they feel…
