If anyone on Earth was predisposed towards this movie it was gonna be me- particularly after Megalopolis’ impotence in expressing anything true about architects. As an immigrant and an architect (as well as someone who has a lot of ambivalence about the American Dream) I was ready for this to be my movie. The Brutalist didn’t meet my admittedly (unfairly) enormous expectations. But it did get pretty far.
That this movie is a triumph of craft is self-evident and joyously…
