    The Monkey

    ★★★

such a compelling way to portray the cycle of abuse and the generational impact of neglect.

instead of breaking the cycle, one brother inflicts it while the other chooses to repress it. Both are yearning for a connection that was never shared with them, even from their mother who was undoubtedly the best example for the two. The entire time i felt like i was in more suspense waiting for Hal to finally show vulnerability to petey than i was…

  • The Act of Killing

    The Act of Killing

    ★★★

i had to look up how many other massacres (that werent wars) where over 100k civilians of foreign entities in the 20th century were explicitly killed with tactics funded by the US government…. there were EIGHT distinct instances where this had occured oftentimes right under the American people’s noses, a lot of which occured during America’s massive societal transformation in the 1950-70s.

Crazy to think about how history trickles down. Even the executioners spoke of their substance addictions and PTSD…

another 2 but just because the main plot was boring doesn’t mean the witch ladies didn’t really up their game here because they did and they were the best part fr

very scared of harkonnens and the visuals are super cool but honestly i’m just kinda like why isn’t zendaya the messiah like i would rather see that.

    again. love the witch mom

  • Mickey 17

    Mickey 17

    ★★½

    i’m feeling conflicted.

i think where i feel lost is the fact that it was trying to be so many things. at first I thought it was severance vibes and that we would explore the themes of connection, memory, liberation, and identity.

My first prediction was that there would be more mickeys than just 17 & 18 and each one would represent a different piece of his subconscious since the two onscreen were so wildly different despite having the same memories…
