  I should have loved this movie and I didn’t. Alexander Skarsgård? Mia Goth? Dark satire of the uber rich? Body horror? Stylistically filmed sequences? Did I mention Mia Goth? But I didn’t like it, much less love it. I’m still processing why and will come back to this review.

  I hated this movie. And it is very, very rare that I hate a movie. Instead of cultivating empathy, the movie cultivates pity. Fatphobia doesn’t scratch the surface. What could have been a good story about saviour complexes, familial conflict, and grief ends up being a story of trauma porn where the character’s weight is treated as a spectacle as well as a dehumanizing metaphor. It is blatant Oscar bait and while I am thrilled for Brendan Fraser’s comeback, this isn’t it.
