Spider-Man 2 2004
Widescreen action spectacle done right, this is what I love from my blockbusters. The small intimate moments are as amazing if not even more amazing than the action set pieces. Although I don’t find this to be the definitive adaptation of Peter Parker, I can whole heartedly say this is the best Spider-Man movie. The planetarium scene? Amazing. Raindrops keep falling on my head? Spectacular.

Police Story 2 1988
The action does feel dialed down from the first Police Story which is disappointing, but what’s here still slapped. I love the really acrobatic nature of most of the actions like the one at the park where Jackie Chan fights in the playground. It’s like eye candy watching Jackie Chan narrowly dodge getting hit by a metal pipe by squeezing through the monkey bars. It’s so satisfying, and why can’t we bring that back!

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness 2022
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Was literally just vibing throughout. Sure the script is messy, sure America Chavez just forgets about her moms, sure the cgi is wonky as hell, sure the Illuminati gets steamrolled after 5 minutes of screen time, sure Wanda kills beyond forgiveness, but it’s Sam Raimi. You can feel his dna in this movie. This is the only MCU movie where I can feel the voice of the director. His distinctive style shines, and I can’t help but embrace the goofiness…

My Neighbor Totoro 1988
I’ve never seen a better depiction of children in any other movie. Hayao Miyazaki is the master of making movies about kids for kids. It’s just so damn cute and harmless. One question though, why does the cat bus have more screen time than Totoro? I need Miyazaki to explain.
