The Sniper 1952
The only noir male, which means the only modern (urban) man. Repressed homophobia/ homosexuality, maladaptation to loss/lack of supremacy, desire for/fear of emasculation. Script tries to wring an Important Social Issue out of it and pleads for Understanding of a lower order than what’s already there but it can’t or doesn’t overshadow the good

Strawberry Mansion 2021
doesn’t always know when to stop, and occasionally is transparent in its leaning heavily on famous influences (notably lynch), but most of the time i don’t mind because its concept and so many of its images fit perfectly within my tastes, and because a lot of its ideas and little details mirror things from my own dreams to an uncanny level
this is also the first movie i’ve ever seen at a film festival, which is very cool and good and i enjoyed myself a lot

Bionicle went far deeper than the toys. The toys were vehicles for this enormous and elaborate and beautiful story. The Bionicle universe contained so many locations, so many characters, so many fine details, made-up languages, and it was all completely internally consistent. From day…
