  Very sharp editing kept me hooked in the first act. Kind of falls off in the second act - there were too many protagonists and not enough tension.

  As a standalone movie, it's not great. The story's strength mainly comes from the book it is adapted from. But even then, the movie 'tells' more than it 'shows' - it feels rushed and there is too much voiceover narration.
  It does do well with costumes and set design.

  The powerlessness of being a young girl in a stranger's house - frightening.

  Loved this movie from beginning to end. The characters really came to life on the screen with how they were written and portrayed, and the screenplay was so detail-oriented and amazing.
