  The Perks of Being a Wallflower 2012

  ★★★★ Rewatched 18 Mar 2025

  They just don’t make them like this anymore. A coming of age drama without disgusting Netflix gloss. Teens growing older in the nineties where the needle drops and clothes actually make sense and work on screen beautifully. Not perfect, as it follows typical plot beats, but 15-22 year olds need movies like this, and even on rewatch at 31, it remains a really well shot movie with a ton of heart.

  It’s like watching your favorite podcast interview a bad guest. Needed more Wally, and less Andre. The 5 star film inside of this would just be 2 hours of Wallace walking around NYC with his interior monologue going.

  I’ll admit I didn’t get this one. Overly vague. Very meditative on life, on nature, and personal relationships, but a meditation to the point of deep slumber. Underwritten and overshot. Felt like a lot of elongated scraps on the cutting room floor pasted together.
