I am stumped by some of the writing and directorial choices here.

The pacing is kind of a mess and we spend the first half hour of exposition with nothing ominous happening in the background, flat dialogue, and no sense that these characters are lived in despite two prior movies of them together. This is definitely not going to be everyone’s cup of tea. iPad kids are going to absolutely loathe it. It’s probably not worth the critical praise it’s getting, but it’s worth a watch. Some gnarly kills and great (but flawed) cinematography.
