So so close to being a perfect movie. The epilogue was one imperfection. The guy’s butterfly hobby is the best part.
When I feel down about postmodernism, I’ll think of the music in this movie.
Two problems with this movie. One, it asks the question whether an artist’s life can be separated from their work, but Tár is such a thinly sketched artist that she isn’t a useful case for thinking that through. The theoretic views she holds and opposes (in the character of the Juilliard student) are unconvincing on their faces, so the contrast doesn’t get much traction.
