A Real Pain 2024
The juxtaposed cousins pry into each other’s plights, then life goes on (though they care deeply about each other!!). C’est la vie.
The pilgrimage reminds me of one atrociously difficult volunteering trip – so demanding that it felt like they reined in the group (indeed it felt like a fucked up family) to collectively swallow ‘survivor’s guilt’. but just like the cousins, everybody is unique, right? So kudos to Jesse Eisenberg for avoiding the dialectical path and welcoming different responses to history
