I wanted to love this so much but for a movie about sex work it felt like the creators were really scared to actually show any sex. I also expected this movie to be above the “sex worker reveals their tragic backstory” trope, which it was not.

Beautiful performances but ultimately annoying story.

I found it so completely captivating all the way through. Love how much nuance was given to Laszlo. Love how the opening letter set up a theme of gilded cages that I still can’t stop thinking about. Love the score.

I try to go into movies knowing nothing but I waited a little too long for this one and I’ve caught a few tidbits from people I trust who hated it so I’m ready for the other shoe to drop as I read up over the next few days.

Final thought: I want to live in that library.
