A legendary opening sequence leads us into a dark story of corruption, that maybe hasn’t aged so well in its casting choices but is directed to perfection by Orson Welles. Each frame filled with little details, as character interactions overlap it can be difficult sometimes to keep up, there’s definitely no way I caught everything on this viewing which makes this film that much more exciting to me. Orson Welles delivers a frighteningly unforgettable performance as the corrupt Police Captain Hank Quinlan that really helps to tie the whole film together. Definitely worth the praise it gets.

A horror movie disguised as a family drama, I can't remember the last time I felt so challenged by a movie. The editing in this, even right from the opening moments, is incredible, it toys around with different techniques just enough to make you feel kind of uncomfortable and yet, as the bright colours fill the frame, I couldn't help but feel almost hypnotised, so much so that the ending completely came out of nowhere. Incredible film.
Playing this as a secret screening was fucking genius, half the people walked out before the end but those that stayed… all seemed to hate it as well. The best horror movie in quite a while. 10/10.
I’ve seen so many people i follow rate this highly and I still just never expected it to be very good and I don’t really know why because this was amazing
It reminded me a lot of do the right thing, from the music to the costumes, the camera work and even just the overall feel of the film and that isn’t a bad thing although I believe that do the right thing is a bit better.
