Being a fan of Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Shallow Grave, Slumdog Millionaire, and MANY more) I was already going to see Yesterday. Boyle is a first class director and his films always run with a terrific energy to them, as well as being back in the 'feel-good', Slumdog territory. Besides that, the subject matter was close to home for me too, being about a Musician, struggling to get further in his career, set in England. So, I was all in.

First off, it's very good. Fresh and frequently amusing, it's the lift the MCU needed after the emotional and epic roller-coaster of Infinity War & Endgame. This entry serves as the necessary coda to Phase 3, and bridge to Phase 4, whilst being absolutely a sequel to the story of Peter Parker, as started in Spiderman: Homecoming.
There are, I am pleased to say, some major callbacks to previous, very early MCU films…
I am a big fan of the three actresses involved, but this film was AWFUL: plotwise, well, there was none. It's literally down to who does the Queen like fingering her the most: Emma or Rachel's characters. There is no actual story to tie together, despite the constant hint of a plot coming through.
The only good thing about this was Nicolas Hoult in his hideous make-up, playing a rather exuberant role. Fantastic stuff, but resigned to a (deliberately) background…
Quite simply, THE best blockbuster ever made.
Disasters, Aliens, Government Conspiracies, Mass Destruction, Jeff Goldblum, I mean, what more do you want from a movie?
This film is entirely perfect, from story structure, to character arcs and relationships, this is truly, the DEFINITIVE Summer Blockbuster film.
