Kurosawa’s wonderfully vibrant take on the lifelessness of bureaucrats. I felt like the first half had scenes that were so utterly pathetic they were hard to watch which ultimately detracted from my enjoyment but illustrated the point of the film quite well. The second half feels like Kurosawa’s 12 Angry Men defending the idea of Japanese bureaucracy by showing how if people decide to truly believe in something it is possible to help people, however it ends with the gut…
