One of the greatest modern comedies to exist, I love how they lean into cliche highschool film stereotypes reminiscent of the films of the early 2000s. Ayo’s unscripted monologue as she speaks about having to marry Elijah is one of the greatest monologues I’ve ever heard.

I empathise with the ugly, untalented gays. Incredible. Something I show to my fellow homosexuals at any opportunity.

I also left my small town and have mommy issues. Bit too close to home and incredibly brilliant. No notes

One of my favourites and something I can watch time and time again (not too soon after the last rewatch because it is so emotionally impactful).

Incredible. Wes Anderson’s cinematography is easily recognisable even in animation. The deliberate choice to keep most of the human speech in their native language to represent the language barrier between humans and animals was brilliant. I’m always a sucker for a good “wild animal tamed through the power of love” trope and this was no different.

Really interesting parallels with the demonisation and exiling of the dogs and how that can be applied to racial segregation. The dangers of dictatorship and propaganda are also clear to see. Overall, a really beautiful, immersive and touching film. 5/5
