  Hidetoshi Nishijima's performance in this is probably one of my favorites ever. It's a fairly lowkey, kinda slow and moody movie, not a lot of dialogue either and yet I was floored by what he was able to do.

  Complete improvement over the 1st one and addresses pretty much all my issues, from the pacing, to being on a more specific timeframe and emotionally it actually hitting. Only issue is still Sayo and everything about her being stuck in the game, she changes quite a bit, but you don't see it and don't really know why beyond some vague mentions. It was less of a focus in this one at least so it wasn't as annoying or distracting, it's just like "oh, I guess she changed!". But anyway, total banger and the concert at the end was fantastic.

  I feel very odd about this movie, mainly because I think it's beautiful, pretty much everything about it is amazing masterfully crafted. BUT I despise J. K. Simmons' character and I hate that in the end technically he won and was in the "right". Still, I obviously do think that it's literal KINO and it certainly delivered on those very high expectations that I had given its reputation.
