I really wanted to like this movie, but the gratuitous display of some of the worst on-screen action I've seen in a while, front and center, made this genuinely hard to watch. I really liked the characters and how their development was handled. The Jesse Plemons scene felt horrifyingly real, gut wrenching, excellent. I wish the movie had focused on these out-of-combat aspects of conflicts, that this scene really should have been the most violent. The rest of the movie…
Hats off to my man Kevin Costner for pulling off the manliest and least emotionally available multi-minute crying scene I've ever seen, really sold me on the whole psycho killer business. Tears are for phonies, Kev proves all it takes is rubbing your eyes repeatedly and stating that you're sad.
I'm impressed that the director asked him to try and show an emotion other than quiet contemplation or mild dis-/satisfaction, and even more impressed that Costner gave it a go.
Decent flick, really liked the interactions between Brooks and his alter ego, they did come off like brothers. Watchable
feels like something went wrong during the editing phase, particularly in the first half, most lines feel strangely ineffective and potentially emotional developments are just unimpactful altogether, in no small part due to the music never being quite in tune with what is going on on screen. Too many unnatural pauses, also less than stellar acting from some supporting actors. I feel like this movie could have been great with tighter editing and some rewrites (particularly every scene with "Mac")…
