Stand by Me 1986
Genuinely one of the easiest movies to rate five stars. Sometimes a movie can be perfect just by the feelings it evokes. I would say that most good movies are movies that evoke a reaction. And while Stand By Me is fairly standard in terms of technique, what it exceeds at is transporting the viewer to Castle Rock. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001

If you've never seen the extended editions of these films you are sorely missing out. They are the only versions I will watch. The theatrical cuts are tighter but lack depth in some areas. For example, this film better explores Boromir and his character's background and motivation. In the theatrical cut Boromir is simply an opposition, there to cause division, and only at the end does he redeem himself.…

The Brutalist 2024
I’m not entirely sure what I just watched honestly. There’s a lot of theme and messaging woven throughout in subtle ways—or maybe it’s really obvious and I’m stupid—and it’s hard to kind of piece it all together.
Performances were outstanding that’s for sure. Cinematography was very impressive and the score really added to the unusual vibe of it all.
Definitely something interesting albeit convoluted.
