Magnolia 1999
In addition to the stellar performances (Moore, Cruise, and others in possibly the roles of their careers), Magnoilia is not only a brilliant, but an important film because it asks the question: what can we forgive? The film is also about how family trauma can work in cycles, and how even when life can seem so deterministic, there is sometimes hope for change, and ways to chart new paths. Maybe it’s a matter of coming to terms with the past, doing a good deed, looking out for someone, or by demanding: “Dad? I need you to be nicer to me”
