  Watched this 2 days ago but wasn’t able to collect my thoughts, which I’ve come no closer to doing. I adore this film, and it certainly makes me think a lot, but I honestly struggle to verbalize what makes this film great. Will require a rewatch (or 100)

  A very dark, inaccessible film. For most of the runtime, we are shown in excruciating detail the mundanity of life, only for that mundanity to slowly crumble into violence. Even the scenes of regular life have this sense of foreboding, and this dread is amplified as the family tears their life up. I still have a lot of thoughts on this movie, making me feel like I just don’t have a great handle on it

  nihilistic to the extreme. this is a narrative in which we are forced to reckon with the subjectivity of truth. there are of course the sequential course of events that make up the truth, but this film recognizes that the truth as we experience it is an interpretive phenomenon. people lie, but more importantly, people construct the truth that comforts them.

  more than a film about heists, this is a film about that sublime feeling, that feeling of euphoria, that feeling that makes you feel alive, like an individual, and the lengths you are willing to take for it. Bodhi is more than just someone striving for that feeling, he is the embodiment of that feeling himself. johnny is an audience surrogate in that regard, as he is so seduced by what bodhi represents that he is willing to follow him…
