    “You die like an animal.”

Line is so goddamn cold blooded. Lisan al-Gaib! Think I might try and revisit this every couple months. The entire film gives me goosebumps and hypes me up nonstop.

Original thoughts that still ring true.

  • The Brutalist

    The Brutalist

    ★★★★½

Monumental stuff that had me completely captivated throughout. The build up to a destructive moment that would happen multiple times with different characters was exhilarating. The thirst for power and control over others’ dreams and how parasitic it all became was relentless. Every aspect of The Brutalist has consumed me, perplexed me, and been on my mind since I saw it.

The scene from the banner photo was wild and I can’t imagine being in that position. Unfortunately, everything sort of just coasted by after this moment, which really wasn’t my tempo. Was hoping for it to get crazy and for George C. Scott’s character to become fully unhinged. Also, Peter Boyle’s hair in this is straight up diabolical. His character reminded me of a mashup between Dr. Eggman from Sonic and Snidely Whiplash from Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Kind of incredible, kind of ridiculously corny, yet also wild that watching people listen to sounds waves on computers could be so enthralling. From here it just keeps getting crazier. The building of the “machine”, the attack, the (basically) Death Star II. It all gets a little far-fetched, not that none of it wasn’t earlier, but you gotta respect it. It totally taps into the sci-fi genre and with Zemeckis’s stamp on it, it’s easy to buy in.

    95/100

Director Joon-ho Bong delivers one of the wildest cinematic roller coasters I’ve ever been apart of. It’s a hilarious, gruesome, and deeply layered story that isn’t something you can classify or explain to others. Following Ki-taek’s family, who are all unemployed, but resourceful and wickedly cunning, Parasite (Gisaengchung) takes you through the loops and corkscrews of social status, greed, and how the system will continue to step on your throat no matter what cards you’re dealt.

    With that, Bong…

    83/100

Ari Aster does is again! Midsommar displays some of the most thrilling and haunting portrayals of grief and codependency. Aster drags you into this dreadful nightmare within the first 20 minutes, only to then hypnotize you with how he displays the sun soaked landscapes of Sweden. It’s an exhausting and uncomfortable, yet hilarious ride where every frame, bit of dialogue, and piece of sound plays into the bigger picture.

I was constantly on the edge of my seat, curiously…
