So my two eldest and I were watching the critics choice awards, deeply enjoying the upset wins of Jon M Shu for Wicked (❤️) and Kathy Bates (do I really look like her??). When it abruptly ended around 9, a BAD 80’s movie came on which I correctly identified by the font and water scene - Overboard. Goldie Hawn waltzing around in swimwear and being pretentious and Kurt Russell as the handyman showing not just one but two nipples.

Upon our conclave’s suggestion (that’s my two eldest), I went to this movie with a friend. I knew the author (I’d read the Underground Railroad) and not much else. I thought the way they filmed the movie was quite original and drew you in. I cared about these characters. Clearly there was unbelievable abuse and tragedy, and how they incorporated it “off camera” made it even more powerful.

I loved it so much. Truly.
Every part. Well mostly. Ariana - chefs kiss - her Popular dance down the hall was perfect. Cynthia-lord, how haven’t I known you? Apologies. You are it. The Wizard and I? Get out of here! I’m Not that Girl? Omg, yes. Defying Gravity -unbelievable. The singing is just glorious and makes me weep.

Well I don’t know a ton about bob dylan but I think the fact that it only covered a few years of his life is tragic. The climactic moment was when he went rogue and played electric guitar at a folk festival? Not riveting plot twists. Also, no sign of drug use? Pu-lease! Try harder next time
