You know what I would appreciate in a movie like this? Dialogue. I saw glimmers of moments of good to great dialogue that would have helped give nuance and background to a complicated (if I am being nice) or ridiculous (if I am being honest) plot and script. Body horror is usually not a genre I like or seek out but I was pleasantly surprised by this film, thanks to a smart script, AMAZING makeup work, and a career-defining performance by Demi Moore, whose physical acting is transcendent. It's definitely gross, but its humor and foreboding (but also beautiful?) message shine through. I get why this is beloved and I am glad I got over my squeamishness to finally watch it.

What was disappointing: the script. People don't talk like this. Van Buren (Guy Pearce) sticks out like a sore thumb. His villainy, at a distance, is interesting but he speaks like someone who has never existed on this planet.

It felt hollow and as if it was going through…

I want to be respectful and offer a unique, feminist perspective about this film. But my mind just keeps thinking, "These hotties have hot AF backs." WHAT? I'm sorry. #thefemalegaze
