This movie is just a blast. From beginning to end the chemistry between Johnson and Blunt has been talked about to death but it really is the center of the movie. The Rock’s comedic timing and skill is at full display here the movie was hilarious. Nailed the dry style of the attraction magnificently. The only issue I had was the conquistadors and their lack of having anything to do or the audience caring about them. Besides that it felt almost like a really good Indiana Jones film with a more comedic and romantic spin.

    This movie is fucking incredible.

That could be the whole review but it’s not. Despite being made almost thirty years after the genres peak Chinatown is one of the best noir films ever made. The beginning is dizzying and your being thrust into the confusion of our main character, but I fell that’s the point and a strength of the film. It’s a noir built on characters particularly Nicholson’s J.J. Gitte. This character and his portrayal by Nicholson is probably one of the best depictions of a noir hero, in part because it isn’t a carbon copy of Bogart but rather and evolution of that idea.

I liked this it’s obviously a classic and it’s importance in film history is unmistakable in terms of how it pushed the boundaries of how violence and sex were depicted and discussed post code Hollywood. It dragged for me in the middle but I believe that is the point. It’s the small human moments built around authentic performances by actors  with palpable chemistry that really elevate the film. It’s also what makes the ending as strong as it is.
