  Of the estimated 3,297 B&W films made in Myanmar in the 50s-60s, only 3 survive in their entirety. This film, which focuses on Burmese supernatural films from that era, shows us fleeting fragments of many more, revealing a bold cinematic language that was tragically lost.

  It's a slow, mournful watch, alternating between the "technique" and "magic" of these films. The extended fragments that survive - digitized, with a wonderful DIY dub created by the filmmaker - are delightful.

  104 mins of giraffe trivia! Attempts a kind of Benjamin Labatut-ian necklace of facts, but has neither his flair for psychodrama or gift for making shit up. The result feels like a plodding read-through of wikipedia entries, made extra painful if a giraffe isn't on screen to liven things up.
