Despite the plenty of action scenes, the film often falls into boredom and it just felt way too long. The strongest parts are definitely the clever dialogues and occasional flashbacks.
I was struggling to root for Ladybug, who was supposed to be the main lead and a few other characters could have been cut to focus on the more interesting ones. Overall, it wasn’t a waste of time but I can’t imagine watching it again.
A solid sequel, even though the second half of the film felt a bit rushed, which caused some damage to Paul’s character arc, and also made the plot more predictable.
But overall, Denis Villeneuve delivered the usual: stellar cast, spectacle, spice and an appetite for the third instalment.
Oh, and let us not forget the brilliant Hans Zimmer, who produced a soundtrack even better than the first film’s.
I loved the humour and witty dialogues of this film, but overall the story was missing a main driving force and failed to be engaging. Also, the ending wasn’t satisfying.
This film is a beautiful love child of the Japanese and French cinema and a paragon of how tell a lot without showing too much.
