I have such mixed feelings about this movie. The first third of movie is absolute brilliance, easily some of the most emotionally intense and moving sequences that I've seen. It was my last night on the university campus before I left for home in the COVID lockdown. My girlfriend had sneaked into my dorm. This is an absolute masterpiece in animation, story telling and biography alike. Some moments like the climb with Buntaro, the storms at Everest southwest face, skies at the base camp, etc were jaw-dropping. I would often rewind and pause to simply stare and admire the shot composition and colors. Truly a wonderful experience that makes an earnest attempt to answer the perennial 'why do this' question (while making me want to switch out my next beach vacation with a mountain vacation)
