An often delightful encapsulation of Poe’s work set in the drugs-devastated landscape of modern America, this series follows the choices of a brother and sister whose “deal with the devil” leads to consequences that they refuse to acknowledge. An indictment of the pharmaceutical industry while also filled with macabre and grisly horror deaths, the show tries to blend horror, drama, and the supernatural to tell a story of the weakness of the human mind, its smallness in the face of systems beyond its control, but also, ultimately, the agency and responsibility of the individual despite those circumstances.
