Dr. Otto and the Riddle of the Gloom Beam

Jim Varney (the star of the Ernest movies) plays a mad scientist, who uses a ray gun to destroy the world's financial institutions by erasing their computerized records. And it only gets weirder from there.

This movie has an extremely loose plot, the characters act like cartoons, the story's sci-fi elements don't make any sense, the title character is a deranged lunatic, and the comedy is a mix of dark humor, slapstick, and surrealism.

Oh, and the film was directed…

If you've ever wondered what it would be like if George Lucas directed an A24 film, this is it.

THEM! is a 1950s monster movie about the American military fighting giant radioactive ants.

Right off the bat, many of you will understandably think it’s a silly, poorly-made, piece of trash, with only ironic value. In reality, this was a tense, intelligent, and creative sci-fi thriller. It does have some very cheesy effects, and the second act has some big pacing issues, but the characters are well-written, and there are some very tense moments and creepily suspenseful scenes.

    The best…
