So this is an early 80s slasher from Spanish director Juan Piquer Simon, best know for another gem in the genre, Slugs. This film has the requisite amount of blood and gore, and a storyline that drives the behavior of the killer, who is clearly suffering from a nasty case of arrested development. Massacre at Central High 1976
WTF did I just watch?? Certainly not a horror film, not so much a thriller. Not exactly explotation or splatter. Yet, it’s kinda all of them, and so much more. At first glance it’d be easy to write this film off as a cheaply made, poorly written, clumsily acted, and amateurishly filmed teen drama. To be sure, it’s all of the aforementioned. But… it’s also a scathing social commentary on the dangers of fascism and perceived hierarchy of class. Great film!
