Very uncanny seeing this after seeing Final Cut.

It absolutely excels in it's authentic low-budgetness (yes it's a real word), where the French remake just felt a little bit too polished. Every performance in this Japanese original is fantastic and the jokes land just as well - maybe even better - despite the fact I've seen them before.

This movie is entering the "I don't know what to put on" rotation for sure!

    I love horror movies.

The trouble is, love is irrational. When a horror really connects with me, I’m flushed with adoration as if I have just met the newest ‘love of my life’. I refuse to hear anything that might cloud my idolisation of this newfound lover. Equally, when horror doesn’t meet my expectations I feel betrayed and scorned as if I’d caught my partner in the arms of another.

The latter situation - a mismatch of expectation and reality…

This is a difficult review to write.

Burial's themes are commendable and especially relevant in the current growth of history-deniers and neo-Nazism. The story concerns a particularly gripping mystery of history. The cast are superb. On paper, I should love this.

It's a shame, then, that I didn't walk away really feeling much at all towards this movie. There is something pedestrian about its delivery that meant the movie washed over me without leaving an impact.

I liked this movie well enough, but I'm disappointed that that is all I can say.

I have a headache and I think that's what the director wanted. If you're looking for balls-to-the-wall splatter madness, this is it.

Personally, I'm happy I saw it but after 140 minutes I never want to see this clown again.
