i really liked it… but it just felt so focused on being entertaining that it missed the commentary of patriarchy and gender roles in modern relationships and how this messaging really applies to the objectification and ownership of another. like it was just so many moments when the commentary was right there and then, suddenly not.

Chinonye Chukwu. Full stop?
I don’t normally feel like it is my place to comment on movies but Chukwu’s choice of a Black Female warden, conducting death penalties in a mass incarcerated prison, against Black and Brown bodies is remarkable. She captures through these characters the complexity of race within mass incarceration, and how personal it is through the Bernadine’s stand off nature until the end. She dies inside with each person she murders, becoming a harden shell.
