A disgrace to the good name of "Xtro."
Watched with Rifftrax.
Imaginative, funny hard sci-fi that overstays its welcome by about a half hour. I do love the Korean approach to character where everybody is a complete weirdo with only barely understood motivations.
Edit: I realize I saw this exactly one year to the day after Dune Part 2, and I'm confident to call Mickey 17 the anti-Dune.
Completely inauthentic, but in a way that makes it an accurate time capsule of how people thought of kids at the time. The child characters are assholes, the jokes are too adult, and the effects are sort of charmingly bad in that classic "Full Moon" kind of way. I'd like to think that, against all odds, it's SOMEONE's favourite movie from when they were a kid.
A documentary film about traveling with Americans.
Well observed character details in both the writing and acting. Nobody's the villain but everybody will set your teeth on edge, with Culken doing the lion's share of that dentistry. Does a great job of capturing the most diffuse effects of intergenerational trauma.
