The movie was not bad but it did not live up to the hype.
My major problem is that the "relationship" between Ellen and the Monster symbolizes sexual abuse and trauma. While this would have been an interesting take on the original story, the ending defeats any empowering message. How does the victim regain her power and defeat her abuser? Giving in. What is her reward? Death.
