Nosferatu was a good movie, but did not nearly live up to the hype. The contrast between gratuitous body horror and the movie’s sexual overtones made the intimate moments of the film unsettling, but the plot itself was extremely lacking. One glaring example being Thomas’ hunt and Ellen’s sacrifice, which is prefaced by Von Franz explaining to Ellen (and to the audience) that Thomas’ hunt will be ineffectual. Such an inference could (and I think should) have been left to the audience. The cinematography is fantastic but I wish there was more nuance to the plot.
Cult classic for a reason; minimal plot but fun and campy. A horror-comedy that makes bad jokes and revels in it while making the audience want to dance and sing along with its silliness is a must watch.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is a disappointing attempt to relive the glory of the first movie. It succeeds in making the same silly jokes and bringing (to a lesser degree) campy aesthetics, but attempts a more complex plot with little success.
