My friends didn't like this, but I enjoyed this slow, non-linear, dream-like, capital A for Art, exploration of privilege in 1980s America. The filmmaker takes us through all the various levels of privilege - through the lens of race, class, sex and age (menopause).

I'm not against negative films... but this one was too much for a Tuesday evening. The word 'misery-porn' definitely comes to mind. I know that was clearly the intention, but I feel it is possible to take things too far. Cinematography was nice, but the excruciatingly slow storytelling did not inspire any empathy from me.

Ah, I love this film. It is a work of art and a time machine; so achingly beautiful and entrancing to watch.

I am surprised that so many people seem to see this as a film about motherly love. I see it as the polar opposite. It is a film about freedom. Her mother's letters feel claustrophobic, even to me as the viewer. And though she is now anonymous and lost among this city of strangers, she is also free to begin again.

I enjoyed this. Made me laugh. Started to drag a little at the end. But Loved the distinctly 1960s-halfheartedly-does-1800s styling. Banjo looked like he'd stepped right out of Height Ashbury. And that Ally Cat was a very weird/awkwardly white-hollywood-racist character. Was cool to see Van Cleef playing a hero for a change.
