In context as well, I'm comparing this film to alien as a franchise. On its own it's a great horror film I'd give 4.5/5. But within the alien franchise I felt let down by the payoff in this film.

Paul is Nick Cages best performance of his career, which is as tragic a fact as the narrative choices made in this work.
If it wasn't for Cages perfect fit, the direction and cinematography, the dialogue, and the audio editing I'd give this film zero stars.

I'm giving this one star but you can take it as recommendation to watch.
Nicholas cage offers one of his worst performances, to my delight, watching him bumble around into his I'll fate is oddly believable.
Add in the awkward flashbacks and stilted directing. Wickerman is a must see nick cage performance.
