I came to my couch with the single object of seeing you… I had to see you.  I have fought against my better judgment, my friends’ expectations, the inferiority of your creation by industry and circumstance. All these things I am willing to put aside and ask you to end my agony.

  Review: I am a little scaredy cat and this is on the edge of being too much for me, but I know it’s probably not that scary for most. I enjoyed every minute. 

  Review of other reviews: I feel like the people complaining about this being “theme first” or “prestige horror” have forgotten that movies just… have themes. 

  Like you’re gonna call this movie — playful, silly/serious, truly scary while still being fun — prestige? It’s not haughty or pretentious, it’s just good. How dare there be themes! Gender? Get it outta here! Reaganism? White flight? Gentrification? Speak English please!

  I really loved how different the tone of The Boy and the Heron was compared to some of my other favorites. Mahito is such a fantastic character, and we really get to feel and move alongside him within the story.
